Spring Training Academy 2017

The Spring Training Academy, directed by Josie Ferri & Julie Young, is a 6-week intensive program that follows an advanced curriculum designed to improve and strengthen female lacrosse players. To read full description and to register, please click HERE.

Eligibility: Open to any and all girls’ lacrosse players regardless of club, school or township affiliation (K-8). Players will be divided by age and skill level for training sessions.

Location: The Episcopal Academy, Brand New Stadium Turf Field, 1785 Bishop White Drive Newtown Square, PA 19073

Sessions: Mondays: 3/27*, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1 or Tuesdays: 3/28*, 4/4, 4/11, 4/25, 5/2

Training will begin with warm up promptly at 6pm and will finish by 7:15pm (*3/27 & 3/28, training will run 5:30-6:45pm)

Cost: Mondays – $185 (6 sessions), Tuesdays – $155 (5 sessions, no clinic on 4/18), Individual Clinics – $40/each

Staff: The program’s coaching staff will consist of coaches from multiple club and collegiate programs (DI & DIII), dedicated to teaching the game and developing top athletes! In order to ensure our guarantee of individual player improvement, we will maintain a 8:1 player/coach ratio during training.

Winter 2016-2017 Clinics

Winter Clinics are open to any 2017-2025 players, regardless of club affiliation. Players committed to Blast for the 2016-2017 will receive first priority in the event a session sells out. Training begins November 29th and ends February 28th.

Session I Skills- 11/29, 12/6, 12/13, 12/20

In Session I (Individual Skills), players will be focusing on the individual skills needed to excel in their position. All sessions will incorporate stickwork as well as training specific to their position, including but not limited to dodging, shooting, draws (center & circle), 1v1 footwork (on & off ball), and checking. Goalies will be focusing on hand/eye coordination, footwork, straight shots and clearing – all gks will be coached separately by an experience goalie coach.

Session II: Game Concepts- 1/3, 1/10, 1/17, 1/24

In Session II (Game Concepts), players will be focusing on game concepts by position. All sessions will incorporate a stickwork warm up as well as position specific training focused on game concepts, including but not limited to:

  • Man up-man down
    • Attack: Finding the open player, ball movement
    • Defense: Awareness, sliding and communication
  • Small-sided play (2v2s, 3v3s)
    • Attack: Give & go, Draw & Dump, Front door/back door cutting, picks, screens, flip passing
    • Defense: Cutter defense, off ball hedging/awareness, communication on picks/screens, doubling
  • Transition
    • Riding & doubling
    • Draw transition

Goalies will be focusing on footwork in cage related to ball movement, shots from cutter (feeder behind) and clearing under pressure – all GKs will be coached separately by an experienced goalie coach

Session III: Preseason Prep – 1/31, 2/7, 2/21, 2/28

In Session III (Preseason Prep), clinics will be focused on preparing players for their spring season tryouts. Players will be coaching through various drills frequently used in tryouts to assess individual skill, stickwork, speed and game IQ. The goal of Session III: Preseason Prep is help players feel confident heading into spring season in all areas of their game.

Players will be grouped by position and then by skill. Midfielders will have the opportunity to work on both individual attacking and defensive skills. All clinics are run on Tuesday nights, 7-8pm (MS/Youth) & 8-9pm (HS) in the Episcopal Academy field house.  Be sure to bring water, googles, mouthguard and stick – wear a reversible and sneakers! 

Fall 2016 Clinics

Curriculum: Each clinic begins with skill development followed by small sided games in which players will have the opportunity to practice the skills taught. Players will be coached in proper cradling technique, shooting, passing, dodging, offensive and defensive techniques, as well as draws. Goalies will be given separate instruction to hone and enhance their specific skill set.

Dates: 9/11, 9/18, 10/2, 10/16, 10/23

Location: Episcopal Academy Stadium Turf

Time: 2-3:15pm (2021/2022) 3:15-4:30pm (2023/2024/2025)
