We are committed to the COMPLETE DEVELOPMENT of each and every player in our club program. At Blast, we want to push our players’ outside their comfort zone. We want to challenge their skill level and lacrosse IQ knowledge by developing them both technically and tactically. However to push an athlete to the next level, we encourage an environment where confidence can grow and risk taking is rewarded.
Advanced Technical & Tactical Instruction
The game of lacrosse is a highly skilled sport. The players who develop quicker have proper skill and technique; therefore skill instruction is one of our main focuses in our program. We teach the most advanced skills to even our youngest players.
Women’s lacrosse is always changing; strategies, tactics, drills, terminology and even the rules! By the time our players graduate high school, their game knowledge has been thoroughly developed and they are ready for the next level of lacrosse.
Speed & Agility
Lacrosse is a series of stops and starts. The best players slow down in a controlled fashion before making a cut and sprinting back to top speed. Additionally, having linear speed is a game changer, but something much more important to overall performance is having the ability to change direction at a quicker rate.
Speed & Agility is a motor task, and because of this, it is important to learn correct mechanics and proper running/agility forms from a professional. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Josie helps to incorporate speed and agility drills in the program’s curriculum and practice plans. Additionally, Cory Walts, the current head strength and conditioning coach at Haverford College, develops and conducts the curriculum for all speed & agility specific training sessions held before and after summer practices.
Mentality & Leadership Training
We want our players to develop a growth mindset (vs. fixed) both on and off the field. In a fixed mindset, players believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence, talent or ability to lead, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting these traits instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. However, in a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great players have had these qualities. Teaching a growth mindset creates motivation and productivity in the world education, sports and in life.
Through mentality sessions with Diana Caramanico and our leadership course, Philly Blast encourages players to develop their mindset and hone their leadership traits both on and off the field.
RECRUITING & COLLEGE CONNECTIONS
We believe that there is a school and a sports program out there for everyone: you just need to be willing to put in the effort to find the right match! Players who are dedicated, focused on consistently improving and learning the advanced game can play in college (D1, D2, D3 or Club). We are committing to helping our club members navigate through the recruiting process and find the right fit for the next stage of their lacrosse career. Julie Young, one of Philly Blast’s Director and a current head D1 college coach, has 15 years of college recruiting experience, knows the current recruiting trends and rule changes, and has an enormous amount of connections in the collegiate coaches network. Through the relationships and connections our club and our coaches maintain, we are confident that we can help each of our athletes find the right fit!
VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Lacrosse is getting bigger in Philly and there are MANY clubs to choose from.. but some of the best clubs and players in the nation come out of the NY and MD areas. Why? Dedication to advanced stickwork, an aggressive style of play, and groups of talented athletes playing TOGETHER. We want to bring the most talented and competitive athletes together, help them develop the game’s most advanced stickwork, and compete against the nation’s top clubs. Our vision for Philly Blast extends far into the future and we are excited by the level of commitment and support we’ve received from players, parents, and current college coaches.
